Much of the healing involves acknowledging that institutions, not just people, are racist.
Rev. Dr. Calenthia S. Dowdy (she/her) is Director of Faith Initiatives at FIGHT. Her roles include education, outreach, networking, and spiritual counseling. Dr. Dowdy teaches a community course aimed at interfaith leaders called Faithful TEACH with the goal of eradicating stigma and misinformation about HIV. Dowdy is also an academic and has held roles as a college professor and chaplain, a youth pastor, and facilitator for racial justice workshops. Her Ph.D. is in cultural anthropology from the American University, and other degrees were earned from Temple, UPENN, and Westminster seminary. Other honors include completing the International Inside-Out Prison Education Training program, a 2016 Women’s Way Powerful Voice awardee, and a recipient of the 2020 Red Ribbon Awards from the Penn Center for AIDS Research.
