Survey this Mal. 3:6 (and many other similar verses).

He’s more likely to be a demon trying to lead people to hell than he is a believer.

Any other definition is man made religion. Therefore Steve Chalke is an evangelical.

This is no place for that here. This is a place for a believer and nonbeliever alike to learn more about God. Use scripture as your guide.

It would be helpful to see EA’s original statement in order to evaluate it properly. But perhaps their claim of representation is a bit overstated. If an official separation is needed, it should probably be done with as little fanfare as possible. Hopefully there continues to be personal interaction between Steve and others in the EA, if both parties want that.

Sorry you feel it has a nasty taste. I didn’t mean to infur that the EA board were either speedy or un prayerful. I was suggesting that they not considered how silencing voices by putting them out of the group does not serve the positive Christian commentary you suggest. Hope that helps. Al

I think he has something to offer on the subject. What he fails to comprehend fully (and I have debated with him on this) is that evangelicals tend to talk of sola scripture but then act as if they have a magisterium who decide what orthodoxy looks like.

Exclusion from the group only serves to silence the voices of the community. It does not remove either their beliefs or their legitimate questions. What are your thoughts.

I read it with interest, it looks like you did as well, Alan.

If anyone cares to hear another perspective on this subject, I’d suggest reading Wilson’s piece. It’s located at the THINK theology blog.
