It’s tricky business, because when you’re dealing with issues like hunger for example, you have to think about the long-term while still taking care of the immediate needs. Flooding countries with free food and ending it right there can easily make the people of that country dependent on that free food and destroy their ability to feed themselves. But on the other hand, totally giving up on immediate aid in order to “teach a man to fish” means doing absolutely nothing for the ~7000 children who will die because of undernutrition today. Which is why it’s always a worthwhile endeavor to do some research into what is being done by the charities you support.
