If nobody has followed it perfectly, that is due to sin.

The concern I have with this statement is that not every version of the Bible uses the same words. Some are quite radically different. So which version is to be believed word for word?

I apologize if I misconstrued what you had said about Tony C’s influence in your faith. And I agree wholeheartedly that basing one’s entire theology on one theologian, or even one “school” of theology. We can far too easily work our faith into a box that allows no room for growth or development.

Again, thank you for your thoughts.

For example, I support legislation to curb abortion, but I also financially and materially support a ministry that supports pregnant women that are coming in for ultrasounds, both spiritually (prayers, counseling, Christian literature) and materially (diapers, formula, anything an infant would need). I don’t see anything wrong with other courses of action (picketing), but I have personally committed to take a positive action because that is what I think Jesus modeled the most in His ministry. This is Tony’s contribution to Christianity, being a voice to live out our faith in concrete action that Jesus talked about – feed the poor, clothe the naked, and so on.

While Tony has not changed significantly, the community around him has changed significantly. Tony has always been perhaps the most conservative member of the movement and the one that has lent it the most credibility. He has always been an Evangelical talking WITH Evangelicals.

Red Letter Christian was fundamentally a movement about Evangelicals (Bible-believing, orthodox Christians) taking the red letters that were minimized in some circles back to their proper place. Most articles were from Evangelicals.

Now, Red Letter Christian is fundamentally a cross-denominational movement of elevating the red letters above the rest of the Bible and viewing them through the lens of liberalism. Articles are from people who are “ex-Evangelicals” and are speaking AT Evangelicals, whom they generally loathe.

To answer your question, yes, I think he is opening doors, but I think too many people make the mistake of this becoming their entire theology instead of being something that fits within a larger, overarching theology.
